the creative director inder bedi, 34, launched matt & nat in 2000 after he has been designing accessories for over a decade. his goal was to go beyond fashion, invoking our own human experiences and the environments that surround us. from the beginning, matt & nat always strived to be fashion-forward while maintaining ethical business practices.
the company’s philosophy is to choose to contribute positively to the world. to inder this means no animal byproducts whatsoever, constantly giving back to the community, and spreading the positivity to as many as possible.
the Montreal based company is widely recognized internationally by press and buyers alike for its unique styling and innovative materials. spring 08 saw the launch of a nylon collection made entirely of recycled plastic bottles. forays into never before seen materials have intrigued and challenged the creative team, who continue to comb the globe for what’s next. with new fabrications and concepts each season, matt & nat seeks to surprise, question, and provoke.

casa di culture (CDC) “boutique for the global individual” is run by three sisters who aim to capture the sights, sounds and smells of our global experiences and lifestyle.
they work with printers that have incorporated non toxic and water based inks into their printing practices. all their designs and images are done in house.
they offer globally inspired organic cotton tees for both men and women, baby onesies, sustainable bamboo tea and natural handmade soaps and shaving bars.
CDC told me that they are going to expand within the next months by introducing new inventory and specially commissioned silver jewelry.furthermore, they will have a relaunch of their website, becoming more interactive. they want to enable visitors to upload their travel pictures and provide them with first hand information about international issues.

in 1999, tierra del forte started her career in denim design in NYC. visiting domestic and international garment factories opened her eyes to the destructive impact that the fashion industry has on the environment and on the people who make the clothing.
in 2005, she returned to california with a desire to focus on eco-conscious style and started her line of premium organic denim for eco-chic women, del forte denim.
her dream was to create her own premium denim line while protecting the environment and the farmers, i.e. use fabric that is grown without chemical pesticides and herbicides.
tierra: “organic is win-win for everyone. customers love it, ecologically responsible mills get rewarded, organic farms profit and i get to feel good about the fabric i use.”
all her cloths are made in the USA with 100 percent organic cotton and are sewn and finished in los angeles.
del forte denim has partnered with the sustainable cotton project (SCP), which has been building bridges between farmers, manufacturers and consumers to pioneer markets for certified organically grown and sustainable cotton since 1994. a portion of del forte denim’s proceeds will go to support the SCP.
a great idea by tierra is the project rejeaneration, where you can send in your old pair of del forte and they will use them again for their second generation: rejeaneration demin. in return you will receive 10% on your next purchase or may donate the 10% to SCP.

enamore was founded in brighton by jenny ambrose in 2004. jenny’s vision was to create beautiful, playful and quirky garments from organic fabrics and vintage materials, after discovering the damaging effects of fashion industry to our environment.
today, being based in bath, enamore is designing cloths made from organic and sustainable fabrics including hemp, cotton, bamboo, soya and silk sourced. the uk fashion label designs in bath, wales and london, supporting local manufacturing.
having strated with a small range of clothing made from hemp fused with a colorful array of hand-sourced prints from the fifties and sixties, today enamore is offering a diverse collection of dresses, separates and an exciting range of organic lingerie with a new twist on the modern pin up.
besides the great designs i personally like the fact that jenny regularly works with fashion and textile students and graduates from all over the UK, offering them unique opportunities.

as i told you at the beginning of the week, i met kirsten, the founder of sense-organics, at the innatex. besides her baby and women collection she also presented the DAA (designers against aids) collection at her stand.
today it’s my turn to present DAA to you!
DAA was founded in 2004 by the non-profit organization beauty without irony in order to raise awareness about aids in the media and public, especially to young people in industrialised countries.
what they do is the following: they basically go to famous and emerging designers, musicians and other celebrities and ask them to design prints for t-shirts, sweaters, bags, hoodies, condom boxes, etc.
from there on, sense-organics takes care of the production of the DAA collections, which are made of organic cotton in a fair trade community in india.
you can find the cloths at H&M …25% of the sales value from the collection goes to HIV/AIDS-prevention projects around the world.
…here are a couple of artistis who already take part at DAA: rihanna, chicks on speed, good charlotte, henrik vibskov, jade jagger, justice, katharine hamnett, my chemical romance, rufus wainwright, scissor sisters, the cardigans, tiga, timbaland, justice and ziggy marley.
